Three seriously injured when car turns left in front of riders on two bicycles in East Lake

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate a crash that left three people seriously injured. The crash involved one vehicle and three bicyclists at the intersection of East Lake Road and Trinity Boulevard at approximately 8:29 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2022.

The vehicle involved was traveling southbound on East Lake Road, stopped in a left turn lane at the intersection of Trinity Boulevard. Two riders on a Tandem Bicycle and one rider one another bicycle were traveling northbound on East Lake Road in a designated bicycle lane approaching the intersection of Trinity Boulevard.

At the intersection, the driver of the vehicle turned left into the path of the two bicycles. As a result, the two bicycles collided with the right side of vehicle, with all three riders suffering serious injuries and being transported to area hospitals.

Troopers say that all three bicyclists, ages 65, 61, and 64, were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The 16 year-old female driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash, according to FHP.
