Pinellas Detective and Elderly Dunedin Resident Injured in Dunedin Vehicle Crash

An 86-year-old Dunedin resident was injured after a vehicle crash involving a Detective from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash occurred at about 4:07 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the intersection of Main Street and Pinehurst Road in Dunedin.

According to investigators, Detective Jennifer Zinge was on-duty and driving her unmarked Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office 2013 Ford Fusion westbound on Main Street in Dunedin.

Investigators say 86-year-old George Gillies was driving his 2000 Ford Taurus eastbound on Main Street and attempted to make a northbound turn from Main Street onto Pinehurst Road, in front of Detective Zinge’s vehicle, causing the collision. Investigators say both westbound and eastbound traffic signals at Main Street and Pinehurst Road were green.

Detective Zinge was transported to a local hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

George Gillies was also transported to a local hospital via ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Gillies was issued a non-criminal traffic citation for Failure to Yield.

It does not appear that speed or impairment are factors in the crash.

The investigation continues.

Zinge has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office since October of 1994.
